The usual way to rent a scooter in Phuket is to walk into a roadside shop, hand over cash and hope the bike is in decent shape. Bikago works differently. You book online, see the price straight away, and the scooter is delivered to your hotel or waiting for you at the airport. Your passport stays in your pocket, there is roadside assistance if anything goes wrong, and you can return the bike almost anywhere on the island.
It is not the cheapest option in Phuket, but for visitors who want a well-maintained bike without the usual rental-shop guesswork, it is one of the easiest.
Bikago has been renting scooters in Thailand since 2014 and now operates in Phuket, Krabi and Chiang Mai, as well as Bali, Lombok and Siargao. Its Phuket office is in Cherngtalay, near Bang Tao, but most customers never visit it: bikes are delivered to hotels and villas across the island, from Kamala and Bang Tao down to Kata, Rawai and Nai Harn.
The company says its fleet is no more than two years old, and every bike comes with a phone holder, which is more useful than it sounds on Phuket's winding roads.
The Phuket fleet focuses on the automatic scooters most visitors actually want:
Yamaha Filano and Honda Scoopy: light, easy scooters for short trips between beaches
Honda Click 160: a good all-rounder for couples and day trips
Honda PCX 160 and Yamaha NMAX: more comfortable for longer rides around the island
Honda ADV 160: a taller adventure-style scooter that handles the hills well
Prices are shown in your chosen currency when you enter your dates. At the time of writing, Bikago's Phuket page listed scooters from around USD 9 a day for the Yamaha Filano and around USD 10 to 12 a day for the Click 160, PCX 160 and ADV 160. Longer rentals and the low season usually bring the daily rate down.
Delivery and collection are free anywhere within Bikago's Phuket service area on rentals of three days or more. Shorter bookings carry a small delivery fee. You can also return the bike at a different point from where you collected it.
For airport pickups, staff meet you at Exit Gate 2 of the International Terminal or Gate 3 of the Domestic Terminal between 8am and 10pm, holding a Bikago sign. You can drop the bike back at the airport before your flight.
This is where Bikago differs most from walk-in shops. There is no passport deposit. Instead, you choose between two options at checkout:
With Bikago's motorbike insurance: no security deposit is required. The cover protects against damage to or theft of the bike, with an excess, listed at USD 95 for standard scooters in the company's terms at the time of writing.
Without the insurance: a security deposit is held on your credit card, listed at USD 750 for standard bikes.
Bikago's insurance covers the bike, not you. It does not include third-party liability or your own medical costs, and it does not apply if you ride without a valid licence or after drinking. Make sure your travel insurance covers motorbike riding.
Every booking also includes English-speaking roadside assistance, and if a bike develops a fault, a replacement is brought to you.
A valid licence: an International Driving Permit with a motorcycle endorsement plus your home licence, or a Thai motorcycle licence
Your passport and the card used to book, shown at handover
Age: riders must be between 18 and 71
Payment: online by credit card or PayPal, in full before the rental starts; cash is not accepted
Staff check your licence and may ask you to take a short test ride. If you don't have the right licence or can't ride safely, the booking can be cancelled at handover. That may sound strict, but with Phuket police running regular licence checkpoints in 2026, it protects you as much as the company.
Fuel: bikes are supplied with a full tank and should be returned full, or you pay for fuel plus a handling fee.
Helmets: provided, and required for both rider and passenger.
Road use only: no off-road riding or riding on beaches, and Phuket bikes stay on Phuket.
Changes: you can switch bikes once within three hours of delivery, subject to availability.
Traffic fines during your rental are your responsibility.
If you want the lowest possible price and are happy to haggle at a roadside shop, you will find cheaper scooters in Phuket. What Bikago offers instead is convenience and peace of mind: online booking, delivery to your door, newer bikes, no passport deposit and someone to call when things go wrong. The company holds a rating of 4.9 out of 5 from more than 480 reviews on Google, which suggests most riders agree.
It suits first-time visitors, couples and anyone arriving by air who wants to ride straight from the airport. Just make sure you have the right licence before you book.
