Welcome to International School Bangkok (ISB), the premier international school in Thailand and a benchmark for educational excellence in Asia. Founded in 1951 on the grounds of the United States Embassy, ISB was established to serve the U.S. diplomatic community and has evolved over more than 70 years into one of the most respected international schools in the region. As a proudly independent and not-for-profit school, ISB reinvests entirely in the growth and well-being of its students.
History & Foundation
ISB first opened its doors as the International Children's Center, becoming Thailand's first international school. As demand for premier international education grew, the school moved in 1960 to a larger campus on Sukhumvit Soi 15. By 1967, enrollment surged to over 3,500 students during the Vietnam War, and in January 1992, ISB relocated to its current home in Nichada Thani — a state-of-the-art US$25-million campus purpose-built for exceptional learning. In 2018, ISB expanded further with the opening of the Environmental Wilderness Campus in Phetchaburi Province, cementing its reputation as a leader in innovative education.
Campus & Facilities
Located within the safe, vibrant community of Nichada Thani just outside the bustle of Bangkok, the campus features state-of-the-art athletics facilities, professional-grade performance art theaters, design and robotics labs, visual art labs, and libraries — catering to almost every program and every student. Recent additions include new playgrounds, an Elementary School cafeteria renovation, a dedicated ES gym, solar panels, and rooftop gardens reflecting a strong commitment to sustainability.
Curriculum & Academic Excellence
Shaped by an American educational philosophy and a truly global outlook, ISB offers an accredited international curriculum combining US, AP, and IB programs, grounded in inquiry, critical thinking, and student agency. Very few schools can offer this level of genuinely personalized education, preparing students with the intellectual rigor, personal confidence, and sense of global responsibility required to thrive.
Beyond the Classroom
ISB's diverse community spans over 60 nationalities, creating a truly multilingual and inclusive environment. Students benefit from a wide variety of after-school activities, enrichment clubs, sports teams, and the renowned Environmental Wilderness Campus outdoor education program.
Values & Community
ISB remains a nonprofit, independent, and nonsectarian institution, governed by its parent-elected Board of Trustees. As a non-profit, ISB reinvests all income back into the school — in a typical school year, 80–85% of tuition income goes directly to salaries and benefits, maintaining a student-teacher ratio of 9:1 school-wide.
