If you are a foreigner living in or visiting Bangkok and need to extend a visa, report your 90-day address, or handle other immigration paperwork, the Chaeng Wattana Immigration Bureau is the office almost every expat and long-term traveler eventually visits. Officially known as Immigration Division 1, it is located inside the Government Complex Commemorating His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday Anniversary on Chaeng Wattana Road, and it handles the vast majority of Bangkok-area immigration services outside of the airports and seaports.
This guide covers the exact location, opening hours, services offered, and practical tips based on official Royal Thai Police Immigration Bureau information, so you know exactly what to expect before you go.
The office is located in Building B, South Zone of the Government Complex Commemorating His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday Anniversary, 5th December B.E. 2550 (2007), on Chaeng Wattana Road, Thung Song Hong Subdistrict, Lak Si District, Bangkok 10210. This is Immigration Division 1, which is distinct from the Immigration Bureau headquarters in Nonthaburi, and it does not cover Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang airport checkpoints.
Monday to Friday: 08:30-12:00 and 13:00-16:30
Queue tickets for walk-in service are issued until 15:30 only
Closed on weekends and public holidays
Immigration Division 1 handles a wide range of services for the Bangkok area, including:
Visa extension of stay under Section 15
Re-entry permits (single and multiple)
Residential permits (NON QUOTA)
Alien registration
TM.47 90-day notification for foreigners staying in Thailand
TM.30 notification of residence by hosts or landlords
Visa issuance and visa type changes
Some specialized cases are routed to other offices, so it is worth confirming with staff before joining the queue if your case is uncommon.
The Government Complex is accessible by several routes. It is close to the Pink Line MRT (Government Complex station), with connections to the BTS Dark Red and Green Lines further away. City buses and vans that run along Chaeng Wattana Road also stop near the complex, and taxis or ride-hailing apps can drop you directly at Building B. If driving, there is on-site parking, though it can fill up quickly during peak morning hours.
Arrive early, ideally before 08:30, as queues build up quickly on weekday mornings
Bring your passport, TM.30 receipt, proof of address, and any required application forms and photos
Dress neatly, as this is a government office
Remember the lunch break between 12:00 and 13:00, when service pauses
Double-check current requirements before your visit, as immigration rules can change
