About

Camelot Café Bangkok: A Hidden Vintage Gem on Charoen Krung 45

There's something about walking into a place that feels genuinely lived-in not designed to look that way, but actually layered with time, taste, and personality. Camelot Café on Charoen Krung 45 is that kind of place. Tucked into a quiet alley in Bang Rak, one of Bangkok's oldest and most storied neighbourhoods, it's the sort of spot you'd walk past without a second glance until someone who knows tells you to go in. And once you do, you understand immediately why people keep coming back since 1993.

The café occupies a three-storey shophouse, and each floor offers something completely different. The ground floor is where most people settle in vintage furniture, eclectic décor, warm lighting, and the kind of corners that make you want to order something slow and stay for the afternoon. There's no one aesthetic trying too hard to define the place; it just accumulates, the way good spaces do over decades. One reviewer noted that a staff member quietly brought over a lamp when they noticed the reading light was too dim a small thing, but the kind of detail that says everything about how the place is run. The second floor opens as a cocktail bar on weekends, and the third floor houses a private room complete with a movie screen, available for bookings and gatherings.

The food leans into all-day brunch with a European bent homemade sourdough bread, fresh pasta made in-house, a rib-eye steak that gets mentioned in nearly every review, and slow-cooked pork that rewards patience. The avocado and smoked salmon sandwich draws comparisons to cafés well above its price point. Desserts are made on-site, including a keto-friendly chocolate ice cream that's developed its own following. Nothing here is trying to be trendy it's just well-made food in a space that gives you room to actually enjoy it.

The service carries the same spirit as the space: attentive without being intrusive, friendly without performing it. The owner has been known to personally show guests around the building, which adds a warmth that's hard to manufacture and impossible to fake.

For anyone exploring Bangkok beyond the obvious or simply looking for somewhere on Charoen Krung that doesn't feel like it was opened last month Camelot Café is one of those rare places that earns its reputation quietly, year after year, one honest plate at a time.
