About

Atmosphere

I recently had the chance to visit Kudeejeen Community for the first time, and honestly, I didn’t expect much at the beginning. I thought it would just be another old riverside neighborhood in Bangkok. But once I got there, it turned out to be surprisingly charming in a quiet, understated way.

What stood out the most was the unique blend of Thai, Portuguese, and Chinese heritage. It’s not just something you read about—it’s something you can actually see and feel. From the old wooden houses to the narrow alleyways and the slow-paced lifestyle, everything feels like a step back in time.

The highlight here is definitely Santa Cruz Church, which sits prominently in the community. The white exterior with red accents looks classic and elegant, and it’s incredibly photogenic—especially in the late afternoon when the light softens.

One small downside is that the alleys can be quite narrow and a bit confusing if it’s your first visit. You might need Google Maps or just take your time exploring and getting lost a little.

Food & Experience

One of the main reasons I wanted to visit was to try the famous “Khanom Farang Kudeejeen.” This traditional dessert has roots in Portuguese influence and has been passed down for generations.

The taste was quite unique. The texture is dense, almost like a rustic cake, topped with raisins, candied fruit, and a slightly crispy sugar layer. It’s not overly sweet like typical Thai desserts, but also not exactly Western—it sits somewhere in between, which makes it memorable.

Overall, the experience here is more about walking and exploring rather than hopping between trendy cafes. Most places are small, local shops or residential homes, which adds to the authenticity.

That said, if you’re expecting lots of cafes or a wide variety of food options, you might find it a bit limited. This isn’t a place for a packed itinerary—it’s more for a slow, relaxed stroll.
